Tasty Turmeric Latte Recipe

Turmeric Latte Recipe

Earlier this year I predicted that Turmeric Lattes were going to be one of the health and wellness trends to watch in 2016. Sure enough cafes around the country have started serving this delicious, nutritious beverage. The health benefits of this amazing root include improved immune function and  improved digestion. Turmeric is also a powerful anti-inflammatory, making it popular amongst athletes and sufferers of arthritis. Read more on my blog about the benefits of turmeric here.

My partner has been known to chew down on it straight from the garden with a mouthful of coconut oil and a sprinkle of black pepper to boot! (Yes I’m serious.) For the rest of us I have created a recipe that allows us to reap the benefits whilst also enjoying the experience.

You will notice that the recipe below calls for ‘fresh turmeric’.  I am lucky enough to grow organic turmeric in my own back yard, so I always have a fresh supply, however I realise that it is not everyone’s priority to have their own private turmeric plantation (however I think that is something dreams are made of). The recipe is how I make turmeric lattes for myself and my family with fresh ingredients. Turmeric powder can easily be substituted as an alternative.

Fresh Turmeric Latte recipe

Serves 4

Ingredients:

1 cup Coconut cream

2 cups filtered water

1 hand full of freshly chopped turmeric (Or substitute with 1 tablespoon of powdered organic turmeric)

1 thumb sized piece of chopped ginger

1 tablespoon of maple syrup (more to taste if required)

1/2 a teaspoon of cinnamon

1/2 a teaspoon of black pepper

Why the black pepper? Studies have shown that consuming pepper with turmeric significantly increases the absorption of curcumin (the active ingredient in turmeric)

Preparation:

Blitz all ingredients in a high powered blender until the turmeric and ginger are blended (I use a Vitamix).

Pour ingredients into a saucepan and heat before serving.

Leftovers may be refrigerated, or even frozen to consume at another time.

Enjoy!!
